Hurricane Lowell: An Important Travel Update from Makai Club Resort

 

September 21, 2026 – Resort Closure

Power has been restored at Makai Club Resort, and our team continues working hard to prepare the property for reopening. The resort remains closed through September 25 as recovery efforts continue. We will share additional information regarding reopening as it becomes available.

When resort operations resume, some amenities and services may remain unavailable while repairs continue. We encourage Guests with upcoming stays to plan accordingly and check for the latest information before traveling.

Recovery also continues throughout Kauai. An island wide water conservation notice and brown water advisory remain in effect, and travelers are encouraged to bring bottled drinking water as water conservation efforts continue. Some areas of the North Shore also remain under travel restrictions.

Restaurants, shops, parks, trails and other island businesses and attractions may have limited hours, services or availability as recovery continues.

Because conditions across the island continue to change, we encourage Guests to rely on official sources for the latest travel and recovery information.

September 14, 2026 – Temporary Resort Closure

As recovery efforts following Hurricane Lowell continue, Makai Club Resort has temporarily suspended resort operations through September 25, 2026. 

The resort remains without commercial power, and limitations to water, hot water, communications, housekeeping and other resort services continue. Amenities remain closed, and our teams are actively working on cleanup and recovery so we can safely restore normal resort operations. 

We are incredibly grateful to our Associates who have continued to care for the resort. Their dedication, along with the efforts of first responders, utility crews and the broader Kauaʻi community, means so much to us. 

Upcoming Reservations: 

• Our Contact Center has been reaching out to affected Owners and Guests and will continue to do so. If you have questions about your reservation, please contact a Call Center Agent at (888) 476-9648, Monday–Saturday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Pacific Time, to discuss your reservation and available options. 

We will continue to evaluate conditions and provide updates as recovery progresses. This closure is temporary, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Hanalei Bay Resort when the time is right.

As recovery efforts continue, we strongly encourage guests scheduled to arrive at least through September 20, 2026, to reconsider their travel plans.

Makai Club Resort remains without commercial power, with no confirmed restoration timeline. Restaurants remain closed, and Wi-Fi and hot water are currently unavailable. Given these conditions, we cannot confidently provide the vacation experience we want for our guests.

Guests with upcoming reservations are encouraged to contact our team to discuss options for their stay. Our Call Center Agents are standing by at (888) 476-9648 Monday-Saturday 8:00 am to 5:00pm Pacific Time.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Lowell, cleanup efforts are underway at Makai Club Resort and throughout Kauaʻi.

First and foremost, we are grateful for the dedication of our Makai Club Resort Associates who cared for our Owners and Guests throughout the storm and continue to support the resort during the recovery.

An Update from Makai Club Resort

Hurricane Lowell brought significant winds and rain to Kauaʻi, resulting in damage across the island.

Makai Club Resort also sustained storm damage. Our team is continuing to assess the property and coordinate cleanup and repairs. There is considerable tree and landscape damage throughout the resort, along with more significant impacts in some areas of the property.

While recovery efforts are moving forward, restoring the Makai Club Resort experience will take time.

For that reason, we encourage Owners and Guests planning to arrive within the next two to four weeks to explore rebooking options with an agent by calling (888) 476-9648.

This recommendation isn’t simply about conditions at Makai Club Resort.

What Travelers Should Know Right Now

Hurricane recovery continues to affect essential services, transportation and businesses on Kauaʻi, particularly on the North Shore.

At this time:

• Power: Makai Club Resort remains without commercial power. There is currently no confirmed timeline for restoration. The latest information available to our Operations team suggests restoration could take one to three weeks, although that timeframe has not been confirmed.
• Water: Potable water service is currently unavailable. Guests on property should be prepared to rely on bottled drinking water.
• Food: Food is not currently available at the resort, and grocery availability in the Princeville area is extremely limited.
• Fuel: Fuel availability is significantly limited, which may affect transportation and rental vehicles.
• Road Access: Roads are open to Princeville; however, access into Hanalei is currently closed due to significant storm damage.
• Communications: Cellular service remains limited and inconsistent depending on the carrier.
• Resort Services: The lack of commercial power is significantly affecting normal resort operations, including housekeeping and room-cleaning services.

These conditions are changing, and restoration timelines may change as utility crews, emergency responders and businesses continue their work.

Your Kauaʻi Vacation Is About the Entire Island

We know what makes a vacation to Makai Club Resort so special. The resort is only one part of it.

Hurricane Lowell affected communities, roads, utilities, recreation areas and businesses across the island. Cleanup and restoration efforts will take time.

Travelers should also check directly with their airline and individual activity, transportation and dining providers regarding availability and operating status.

Construction Update

We would like to make you aware that construction and improvement work may be taking place in various areas around the property. These projects are part of our ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance the resort for the comfort and enjoyment of our Owners and Guests.

Work typically occurs Monday through Friday during daytime hours, and you may experience intermittent construction noise during these periods. While we make every effort to minimize disruption, schedules and locations may adjust as work progresses.
